GUIDE MOVEMENT

MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE.

The president, Mrs C. G. Downes, presided at the last monthly meeting of Te Awamutu Girl Guides Committee, and also present were Mesdames Cruickshank, Dawson, Battson, Goodall, and C. A. Bowler (captain). Apologies for absence were announced from Mesdames E. Walter, A. L. Storey, Mackenzie, Hiskens, and Rainey, Miss M. Ross, and Captain Sullivan. The intimation that Mrs H. S. S. Westmacott, of Otewa, had recently been appointed Divisional Commissioner was received with interestMrs Downes referred to the very creditable showing made by the Guides in the parade on Anzac Day, and remarked that she ’had heard very many favourable comments upon their appearance on that occasion. The captain remarked that Lieutenant Ross had done very well to secure such a very fine parade of Guides. Arrangements were made in connection with holding the Guides’ social and dance on Friday next, (26th instant), all members of the Committee assuming responsibility for various duties or provisions.

It was reported that the card party held recently at the home of Mrs Downes, to aid the Guide funds, had proved wonderfully successful. It was agreed to abandon the proposed reunion of former Guides on the occasion of the coming school jubilee celebrations in Te Awamutu, owing to lack of time to make suitable arrangements for such a gathering.

The monthly report submitted by the Guides captain, Mrs Bowler, indicated that two meetings had been held during the month; both were well attended, and five new recruits were received. Ten members of the local Guides went to a training camp at Otimai on 6th May for a week, together with eight from Cambridge and sixty from Auckland. Miss J. Rogers, captain of the Ariki company, was in charge. The camp was wonderfully successful, being interesting and instructive, and much enjoyed. The Guides were now looking forward to the fancy-dress dance, and hoping it would be as successful as any previous functions of the kind.—The report was adopted.
