The Minister of Mines (Mr P. C. Webb) shot a hawk on the wing last week when it was 60 yards distant from the car in which he was travelling at 40 miles an hour. It was an excellent shot (says the Christchurch Star-Sun), for the hawk was moving up and away from the car. A journalist who was travelling with the Minister at the time took notice of the fowling piece. It was not a work of art as guns go—certainly nothing to compare with the glossy perfection of the guns that Mr R. Semple packs — but it was an old favourite “twentyeight,” hitting very hard, and suitable for a long shot. The Minister gave further evidence of his excellence as a shot when he whipped round suddenly to bring down a fast-flying quail at 50 yards. He and Mr Semple have a great deal In common, both in enthusiasm. and skill where shooting Is concerned.
