Mrs G. Mills, of Ngahinapouri, has returned home after spending a holiday in ChristchurchMiss Olive Spencer, of Bank Street, is spending a holiday as. fhe* guest of Miss T. Walker, at Eltham.

Mr F. Findlay, of Hamilton, has been elected chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board.

Mrs Fairburn, of Devon Street, New Plymouth, was a visitor to Te Awamutu on Wednesday, in the course of a journey to relatives at Cambridge. Mr H. Landeman, manager of the Otorohanga Dairy Factory, has received notice of his transfer to a similar position in Paeroa.

Mr Harry Crosby, Dairy Instructor, Otorohanga, well known in local bowling circles, has received notice of transfer to Morrinsville.

Mrs W. Gillespie, of Dannevirke, and Miss Latta, of Invercargill, have returned hopie after spending a holiday with Mrs A. O. Law, of Pokuru.

Mr Alec Forbes and Miss Nancy Forbes, of Otara, Opotiki, were in Te Awamutu on Wednesday afternoon, on the way home from a visit to New Plymouth.

Mr and Mrs G. D. W. Osborne, late of Kihikihi, will be returning from Taupo this week-end, and will be staying with Mr and Mrs H. W. Harding of Kihikihi.

Mrs J. Clark and the Misses Clark, who spent a holiday in New Plymouth, have returned home to Ngahinapouri. They were accompanied back by Mrs H. Holt, of New Plymouth.

The engagement is announced between Agnes, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Missen,, of Devonport, and Walter, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. Steiner, Paterangi.

At its meeting yesterday, the Waikato Hospital Board decided to place on record its appreciation of the long and faithful services of the former chairman, Mr J. J. Ryburn, of Ngahinapouri.

The engagement is announced between Florence, second daughter of Mr and Mrs S. Burge, of Ngarua, Waitoa, and Eugene, George Finlay, of Springdale, and formerly of Te Awamutu.

Messrs J. M. Quin and Cyril Jackson are representing the Otorohanga Golf Club at the series of Tournaments now being held in Southern Taranaki. The final will be played at Eltham.

The engagement is announced between Lindsay Barton, the youngest daughter of Mr and the late MTs A. W. Babbage, Hauturu, and Colin Carl, youngest son of Mr and Mrs G. B. Berntsen, Hauturu.

Mr J. Caughley has been appointed travelling tutor for the Workers’ Educational Association in Public Works camps, according to a decision of the Canterbury University College Council.

The engagement is announced between Annie (Ann) youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs T. N. Snowdon, Te Kuiti, and Edward James, only son of Mr and Mrs L. B. Gilfillan, of Murray’s Bay, Auckland.

Mr E. G. Hewett, organiser for the National Party of the. South Auckland territory, is at present busy in the Northern King Country, furthering the interests of the party he represents.

Mr R. L. Pepperell, of Te Awamutu, attended the annual re-union in Auckland last evening of' the sth Battery, N.Z.F.A., with which Battery he served in France during the Great War.

Mr Don Budge, who has farmed at Kio Kio for many years past, will leave the Dominion this month, for an extensive world tour, during which he will spend some time visiting numerous relatives in Scotland.

Mr E. S. Saville, for a number of years past head of the drapery department of the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s Otorohanga Store, has returned from a long sick leave to resume his former activities with the branch.

Miss Helen Farmer, lately of Otorohanga, who for some time past has been an active member of the Red Cross Social Club and the EnglishSpeaking Union in Wellington, left for a trip to Sydney by the last voyage of the' “Awatea.”

Mr A. H. Harding, of the staff of the Taumarunui Magistrate’s Court, has received a short-service commission in the Royal Air Force, and will leave for England in a fortnight’s time on extended leave, which has been granted to him by the Department of Justice.

A tour of the Auckland province will be made next week by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Adam Hamilton. Following a visit to Hamilton on Monday, when he will deliver a broadcast address in the evening, Mr Hamilton will go to Rotorua and Thames, and will arrive in Auckland next Friday. Thereafter he will tour North Auckland.

It is announced by Mr Taite Te Tomo that he will be a candidate for the Western Maori seat (which includes all the districts around Te Awamutu and Otorohanga) in the interests of the National Party at the general election. Mr Te Tomo was the member for the Western Maori seat prior to the last election. The present member is Mr T. Ratana, a Labour supporter.

Mr R. L. Harty, who was killed by accidentally coming into contact with a high-power wire at Blenheim the other day, was for many years sheep-farming with his brother at Honikiwi (14 miles west of Otorohanga), where his brother, Mr W. L. Harty, still conducts the property. The late Mr Harty was a noted athlete, footballer and swimlmer. Since leaving Otorohanga district to settle in Marlborough, he had made his name conspicuous there on field and track. He also won the Nelson and Marlborough swimming championships.
