SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE. ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the South Auckland Bowling Association, Mr P. H. Rowe presided. The opinion that country clubs should be allotted a greater number of centre functions was carried, and a motion requesting the executive to carry out the members’ views was passed. The executive reported that last season had been a very successful one. The receipts for the year totalled £225 and the expenditure £2OO. There were 35 active clubs affiliated with the centre, the total membership standing at 1574. A new club had been formed at Matangi. The centre’s New Year’s tournament was an outstanding success, 30 teams having entered. Hamilton won the final. The
champion of champions full-rink competition was won by Otorohanga, while Paeroa won the singles event. South Auckland won the Hardley Shield against Auckland and Claudelands won the centre’s Easter tournament. It was unanimously decided not to grant any dates before September 17 this year.
The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. Maingay (Te Aroha); vice-presidents, Messrs W. Franklin (Waihi), J. Cooney (Frankton); secretary, Mr C. W. Wycherley; treasurer, Mr C. G. Speight; executive, Messrs W. Fraser (Claudelands), W. J. North (Te Awamutu), S. Lewis (Cambridge), P. H. Rowe (Hamilton), A. C. Leggett (Putaruru), W. Waring (Taupiri); auditor, Mr C. Davis; match committee, Messrs P. H. Rowe, G. Stewart (Matamata), W. J. North; sub management committee, Messrs P. H. Rowe, C. W. Wycherley, J. Cooney.
