OBITUARY
MRS A. J. W. JOHNSTON. The death occurred at an early hour yesterday morning of Mrs A. J. W. Johnston, a lovable and good-hearted lady who in recent years had been a patient sufferer through continued illness, more particularly in recent weeks. The end came peacefully, and she has gone to the Great Beyond where her husband preceded her about eight years ago and their only daughter less than a year ago. Mrs Johnston was born at Cobden (West Coast) over sixty-seven years ago, and was married at Greymouth, her husband being in the service of the Post and Telegraph Department there at that time. They resided there for about five years, and Mr Johnston was transferred, on promotion, to New Plymouth, and subsequently to Naseby (Central Otago), where he was postmaster. The next move was to Hunterville until 1919, when the transfer to Te Awamutu was made. Mr Johnston retired from the postal service in 1921, but continued to reside here until his death in 1930. His wife was widely esteemed, a devout Christian, and but for indifferent health over a long period would have been able to take a more prominent part in worthy public endeavoursFor the past two months her health had been precarious, and her strength failed gradually until the end came yesterday morning. She is survived by two sons, Messrs Leslie (Te Awamutu) and Oswald (Napier). Sisters of the deceased are Mrs Harold G. Davis, of Christchurch, and Miss L. J. Neeley, of Greymouth. Mr Harold Davis, of Christchurch, a brother-in-law, is at present in Te AwamxTtu. The funeral takes place this afternoon, interment being at Te Awamutu cemetery.
