EDUCATIONAL

TRIBUTE TO MINISTER. A tribute to the Minister of Education (Mr P. Fraser) was paid by Mr T. W. McDonald at a meeting of the Wellington Education Board when advice was received from the Education Department that, in addition to a free supply of text books, the Minister had now approved of the of geometrical instruments and classroom requisites to post-primary pupils whose parents or guardians could not afford the expenditure. “The Minister’s heart is with the children in necessitous circumstances,” Mr McDonald said. “The issue of free text books where necessary is a vital part of the education system in this country, and now we have a modern Minister of Education who discovers that there are pupils who, after leaving the primary schools, are still unable to obtain instruments, and agrees to find the instruments for them. I think it is a very important move on his part.”
