ROAD SEALING

IN RANGIAHOIA RIDING. “It would cost £15,514 to seal the principal reads (other than the main highway) in Rangiaohia Riding, and we cculd not expect any subsidy from the Public Works Department or Highways Board,” said the engineer (Mr J. W. Civil), at to-day’s meeting of the Waipa County Council. Cr Hall said he had hoped for at least a £1 for £1 subsidy on the Riding outlay. On a ten-year plan the £15,500 would cost about £1240 per -annum, said the Ccunty Treasurer (Mr. T. Grant), when the figure was mentioned to him. Cr Hall said it would be utterly impossible to proceed with the scheme in those circumstances. ■ Two of the roads in the schem'i had claims to be declared main highways, and therefore there was reason to expect a subsidy from the Main - Highways Board. Cr Hall was granted permission to defer his motion until next meeting, to give him time to consider the engineer’s report.
