RESERVE BANK RETURNS
FALL IN STATE DEPOSITS. The Reserve Bank return for the week ended Monday, May 3, was gazetted last night. The balancing total is £32,383, a decline of £925,647 on that, of the previous week. Government deposits fell substantially by £976.102, while those of the trading bunks increased by £39,860. Other demand liabilities also increased, but a further fall was recorded in the note issue, which was £36,548 lower than the week previously. For the first time in a number of weeks there was a contraction in the sterling exchange reserve, which was £171,113 lower. Advances, both to the dairy industry account and for other purposes, diminshed, the latter item by the substantial sum of £700,000. The dairy account was only £66,527 lower. Other assets increased by ,C 13,440.
