WOMEN’S DIVISION
OTOROHANGA JUNIOR. BRANCH. (Our Resident Representative.) The Otorohanga junior branch of the Women’s Division of the Farm-, ers’ Union celebrated its first birthday in the Friendly Societies’ Hall, when there was a good gathering of members. Community singing was featured, and this was followed by a playlet in one act entitled “ Before Breakfast,” with the following cast: The baronet’s son, Miss Trott; kitchen maid. Miss K. Lurman; the housekeeper, Miss E. King; the butler, Miss 11. Lurman. An improvised telephone installation showed great ingenuity, and caused keen amusement. The characterisations in the playlet were well sustained and faithfully portrayed. A sketch by the Misses Laura Haddon and Isabel Louden, and also one by the Misses Joyce Larsen, Sadie Smith, and Margaret Martin, were appreciated, as was a mouth-organ solo and songs by Misses Sadie Smith and Jean Louden. The song, in costume, “ I Don’t Work for a Living,” by Miss Sadie Smith, was a popular number. The president, Miss Trott, called upon Mrs Tye (president of the local senior branch) and Mrs Horneman to light the. single candle and cut the cake. The gathering was a most enthusiastic one.
