VALEDICTORY

MR AND MRS L. LEIGH. A largely-attended farewell social was given Mr and Mrs Len Leigh at Otorohanga, in which town they have been resident for many years, prior to their departure for Otahuhu, where Mr Leigh has purchased a business. All sports bodies were well represented, the guests of the evening having been prominent in sporting circles over a long period. Eulogistic references were made regarding the assistance rendered to local sport and field pastimes by Mr and Mrs Leigh, the speakers being Mr H. E. Lawrence (Otorohanga Sports Club), Mr R. Cooper (T.O.H. Tennis Association), Mr Cyril Jackson (Otorohanga Golf Club), Mr D. Lovell (Otorohanga Tennis Club), and others. Mr J. Saunders, manager of the local branch of the Farmers’ Trading Company, presented Mr Leigh, on behalf of the staff, with a valuable travelling rug; and the sports bodies presented Mr and Mrs Leigh with a handsome chiming clock; to their little daughter Barbara they gave a very beautiful doll. The Ladies’ Guild of the Presbyterian community bestowed upon Mrs Leigh a valuable, handbag. Mr Leigh has been head baker for the Farmers’ Trading Company for the past 131 years, and aow will start business on his own account.
