THE OTOROHANGA PLUNKET SOCIETY. SUCCESSFUL BALL. (Our Resident Representative.) The Otorohanga Town Hall was the scene of animation and cheerfulness, on the occasion of the annua! ball, held under the auspices of the Plunket Society, on Tuesday evening. The organisation was excellent, and the supper arrangements most satisfying. i Mr E. F. Fairbrcther functioned well as principal M.C.. whilst the music (orchestral) was the subject of much favourable comment. The waltzing competition drew a crowded floor, and the judges (Mesdames H. M. Quin, A. E. Cooke and Mi Cc.oke), had a difficult task to select the winners. The successful couple were Mr and Mrs K. F. O. Smith, and the run-ners-up w;eire Mr and Mrs G. Watson. The successful dancers won in good conjjjany, and the judges’ verdict was popular, both on the floor and gallery. After paying all expenses the local Branch of the Society will benefit to the extent of £3O. ODDFELLOWS AT OHAUPO. AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. A representative party of local Oddfellows travelled to Ohaupo last evening to attend the meeting there of the Loyal Hamilton Lodge. After routine business a very pleasant evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mrs Wily’s orchestra. .A tasty supper was dispensed by the Ohaupo Lodge members and a very pleasant evening terminated shortly after midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” TE KUITI FAREWELL. MR AND MRS J. SAUNDERS. A large number c.f friends assembled in St Andrew’s Hall, Te Kuiti, cn Tuesday evening to farewell Mr and Mrs J. Saunders and family, who are now living in Otorohanga. Rev. W. T. Brabyn presided, and an excellent programme of musical and elocutionary items was given by Mrs Powdrill, Mrs Baddeley, Mrs Lowrie, Mr Shakes, Mr K. Low, Mr Cobbe and Mr Duncanson. During the evening appreciative references of the good qualities of the guests of the evening were made by M|r H. J. Irvine, Mr K. Lew, and Mr S. M. Horne, and on behalf of the congregation Mr Brabyn presenteq Mr and Mrs Saunderd with a beautiful rose down quilt, and spoke of Mjr Saunders’ long and continuous service in the choir and on the management committee. On behalf of the Girls’ Bible Class, Naomi Howell presented Pattie with a scent spray, and Margaret with an autograph album. Mr Saunders and Pattie briefly returned thanks and spoke of the friendships they had formed in Te Kuiti. Refreshments provided by the ladies concluded a very pleasant function.

BIRTHDAY PARTY. SOCIAL AT KIHIKIHI. A very enjoyable birthday party was tendered Miss Cecil Crook, of Kihikihi, at the home of her parents on Wednesday evening. There were about 30 guests present. Dancing and competitions were enjoyed throughout the evening. The rooms had been artistically decorated for the occasion with delicate pink and green shades. There was a beautiful birthday cake with pink icing to tone with the decorations. On it were 21 candles. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss C Crcok and Mr E. Marx. The competitions were won by. the following: Miss J. Crook, Miss J. Sutherland and Mr W. McGhie. Mr W. McGhie proposed the toast tc M’iss Ccok, the guest of the evening and Mr R. Crook, suitably replied on behalf of his sister. A toast to the parents, Mr and Mrs Crook, was preposed by Mr J. Marx, and Mr W. Crook suitably replied. Miss Crook was also presented with a gold key. A very dainty supper was served and M?.- W. Cronk thanked all those present for their kindness and good wishes. At midnight the happy and enjoyable party disapersed for home with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Some of guests present were Mesdames W. Stewart, J. Marx, J. Cook, W. McGhie; Misses I. Penny, C. Jennings, J. Crook, Goodman. M. Anderson, M. Jennings, V. Greensides, D. Greensides, J. Sutherland.
