MAORI CONCERT

ATTRACTION AT KIHIKIHI. The Maori concert and dance, to be held at Kihikihi on Saturday, 12th inst. (Race night) has a good deal of merit, not only for the excellence of tho items—which include hakas, noi and other typical Maori dances—but also for the objective, which is to raise funds to complete the new carved Maori house at Ngaruawahia Pa. Mr Rauheti te Huia, who is one of the prime movers in Te Awamutu district, showed us an illustration of the building, and it certainly appears a residence fit for the head of -the Maori race, King Koroki Mahuta. The photograph shows the additions that are being made, and the name of the structure is to be Te Mahinarangi. It is expected that, when completed, the Maori king will reside there instead of at Waahi. As might well be expected, that charming and accomplished leader of the Waikato Maoris, “Princess” To Puea Herangi, is the prime mover in the undertaking, and this in itself is a guarantee of the -worthiness of the appeal made.
