BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
POKURU LADY HONOURED. It is not often that a birthday cake with ninety candles—one for each year—is featured at birthday celebrations, but such a cake featured at the birthday celebrations for Mrs Clara Turner, of Pokuru, last week, when many of her relatives and friends assembled to honour her. The cake was cut by Mrs Turner, and she received hearty birthday congratulations upon attaining such a great age in the full possession of her faculties. Mrs Turner acknowledged the congratulations in appropriate terms, and said she felt so well that she had good prospects of attaining her hundredth birthday. Three of her children are resident in New Zealand—two of them, Mrs C. D. C. Cummins and Mr T. E. Turner, at Pokuru, and another son, Mr S. T. Turner, in Auckland. There are seven grandchildren.
