PLUNKET SOCIETY

TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. COMMITTEE MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the local Committee was held on Monday afternoon, the president, Mrs J. C. Self, occupying the chair. Also present were Mesdames Ensor, Goodall, Oliphant, A. L. fetorey, West (treasurer) and Swarbrick (secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames Downes, Locke. McAlister, Rickit and A. H. Storey. An assurance was received from the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association that the date for their carnival in 1937 had only been tentatively fixed for March, and that in view of the Plunket Society's statement of the position they would certainly avoid clashing with that body's annual effort. The assurance was gratefully received. The major portion of the meeting was spent in consideration of the minutes of tlie Dominion Council meeting neld in Wellington in March last, and of the standing orders for conduct of branch general meetings received from the Dominion secretary. A number of copies of the annual reports ot the branches had also come to hand, and an examination revealed the fact that the membership of the local branch compared very poorly with that of other branches working in districts of a similar size. Seeing that copies of these branch annual reports go all over the Dominion, the opinion generally was that some effort should be made to remove the slur at present resting on the progressiveness of the Te Awamutu district.; and a discussion ot the best method of effecting an improvement in the membership of the local branch followed. When Te Awamutu can show the way to other (and often larger) centres in the matter of donations received through the box in the rooms it seems a pity it should lag so far behind in the more important item of membership. The donation made by a mother through Nurse McLeod of a knitted frock to be sold for the funds was very gratefully received. Nurse’s report showed 18 new cases for the month. Visits to home 23, to rooms adults 189, babies 180, older children 31; total visits 423. Telephone calls 40, babies under supervision 255, older children 36. The box donations for five weeks totalled £2 4s 3d.
