YOUNG PEOPLE’S CLUB
DANCE AT MANGAITI The Mangaiti folk seem to be under some evil chance with regard to their dances, for it rains incessantly every night that they hold their dances. Last Wednesday, when a dance was given by the Young People’s Club, it poured incessantly and for a long time it looked as if there was going to be no one there. However, a start was made, and eventually about 20 couples turned up. It must have been a great disappointment to the committee to have so few, for very elaborate preparations were made for the entertainment of the guests. The hall was beautifully decorated with greenery and paper decorations. The floor was at first a series of puddles, but after the first two or three dances it dried up beautifully and was soon very fast. During- the evening displays of gymnasium work were given. Mr Wells gave a skipping- exhibition, and Mr Harold Strange and Mr Bruce Wright did some feats on the bar and rings. A very nice supper was handed round, after which an extra was played by Miss Strange. Dancing was resumed and continued until early, morning. The music was supplied by a very capable orchestra under the conductorship of Mrs Glover.
