DRAUGHT HORSES BOOMING
A horseman —a man who knows all about horses —has recently come to Sydney from New Zealand. He tells that draught horses are in great demand there, and that there is a general inclination amongst firms now using motor lorries to return to horse teams, which, it is asserted, are in many ways more satisfactory than horseless vehicles. Of course, the main consideration with the majority of business firms is economy, and therefore, a retx*ospect of hors£-team days has influenced some people to discard the motor to go back to the horse. Much authentic information has been collected in the United States by representatives of newspapers devoted to the horsebreeding industry to show that, excepting for long journeys, the motor lorry does not compare favourably with the horsed. vehicle for delivery purposes. \ Moreover, it is shown on the testimony of big commercial firms in various parts of the United States that, horse tehms for short journeys are 33 per cent, cheaper than motor lorfies. Such a statement coming from Uncle Sam’s territory, where oil and petrol are so much cheaper than in Australia may be taken as a tip that horses —draught horses^ — must come into their '.own again here. Anyway, draught horses are booming in New Zealand and breeders, there are delighted with the prices obtained.— “Country Life.” ./
