ORDINARY MEETING k The ordinary meeting of the Piako County Council was held on Monday. , Present: Councillors F. W. Walters (chairman), F. E. Hughes, W. McLean, W. R. Lowry, W. F. Stark, E. R. Whitechurch, J. Orr and W. C. Kennedy. Mr P. O’Donoghue applied for payment for work he had done on the Main Drain road, necessary to enable hit& to deliver timber. —Left in the hancls of the engineer and Cr. Kennedy. Mr W. McGill wrote stating that **ke had purchased section 63 lot 13 Wairere S.D. containing 7 acres. He wished to have it fenced and would like to have the consent of the Council to include a half-chain road on the frontage of the section. —Granted subject to the usual conditions. The question was raised of whether an owner of trees overhanging a road could be compelled to remove them or only lop the branches. Cr. Lowry said the Railway Department could compel an owner to cut the trees down. Kennedy spoke highly of the Te Aroha metal. The chairman impressed upon the Council that the Public Works Department must pass the metal before it could be used. If the Public Works engineer was satisfied the Council would be satisfied also. It was finally decided that the matter of procuring additional metal from Te Aroha quarry be left in the hands of the chairman, Cr. Kennedy and the engineer. The Hon. J. G. Coates telegraphed that the Council’s application for a for Kurunui road was receiving attention.
