HAMILTON IV.’s v. PIAKO lll.’s WIN FOR VISITORS A representative game between the above teams eventuated on Saturday at Te Aroha, and resulted in a win for Hamilton by 11 points to 3, after a good fast and open game. Hamilton proved superior in their back division, and their play was the prevailing factor to which their win was due. Moon scored a good try after a nice handling bout by the “backs, and McCormick,, after receiving the ball in a passing bout, sidestepped ' his way nicely through the opposition to score near the posts. Denz, the half-back, scored an easy try near the finish of the game by following up; one of the local backs waited for the ball to roll over the line, and failing to secure it, it was pounced on by Denz. Roach scored a nice try for Piako after some good passing. Hamilton secured the ball on nearly every occasion from the scrum, and their backs indulged in a number of passing bouts which invariably gained ground. Piako were prominent in the loose, but Hamilton’s fullback, Patterson, was very safe and relieved time after time. The Piako backs seemed to have no, combination and it was mainly individual play that brought invasions into their enemy’s camp. Over-eagerness at times spoilt what looked like a certain score. The following were the teams:— Piako: MunrO, Mace, Roach, Harrison, Heathcote, Pilkington (capt.), Green, Keaney, Goodfellow, Mulgrew, R. Biggs, Leece, Edwards and the Tye brothers. Hamilton: Patterson, Moon, Simpson, McKearnan, Mills (capt.), MacCormack, Denz, Tooman, Hooper, Greville, Annett, Prescott, Irvine, Flyger and Crosby. For Piako, Pilkington, Heathcote, Roach and Green were the pick of the backs, and Leece, Keaney, Edwards and the Tye Brothers were the best of the forwards. For Hamilton, Patterson, at fullback was the best back on the ground, and Mills, Denz, Moon and Mac Cormack were perhaps the best of a very even lot. Hooper and Greville, the hookers, gave a clever exhibition, and were ably assisted by Flyger, Crosby, Tooman and Annett. Mr T. Turner controlled the game and gave every satisfaction. Owing to the Hamilton team not arriving until the express, the senior match between Waihou and Terriers was postponed until Saturday next, when the match will be played at 1.30 p.m. sharp.
