COUNTY WORKS

ENGINEER’S REPORT The engineer, Mr W. J. Gibbs, reported to Monday’s meeting of the Piako County Council as follows;- y „ Tahuna-Ohinewai Road: eering survey is now, completed. Plans and specifications have been prepared for the work. Paeroa-Tahuna Road: The metalling of this road has been commenced. Tahuna-Patetonga Road Formation: The contract for the first section is practically completed and ready for metalling. Piako River Bridge, Maukoro and West Road: Plans for this work were completed and a copy forwarded to the Hauraki Plains County Council. Timber has been ordered for profiling in erection of concrete culverts and bridges at Tahuna. This timber will be carted to the site on Tuesday. Mr Turbott has been appointed bridge foreman, and these works will be' put in hand as soon as possible^ Together with Cr. Whitechurch I inspected the old quarry at Tahuna. The metal being produced from same is very satisfactory. Quin’s Quarry: The erection of crushing plant should now be ed with as the season is getting on, and metalling should be commenced by November. The approach road to the new Pi- » ako River bridge should now be defined and proclaimed a public road. Hinton’s Quarry: All material has now been ordered for the erection of the plant, such as shafting, belting, etc., and should be on the ground dur- • ing the coming week. A small compressor is required for running a rock drill at the quarry. Main Road, Morrinsville-Te Aroha Section: Shingle arrived and has been' placed on the road and the worst of the holes filled up. Kiwitahi-Morrinsville Road Metalling: This road requires some light grading at once, previous to metal being placed. ; The Kiwitahi-Morrinsville and Chepmell’s Roads Require grading up as soon as possible. All these roads are very rough after the wet winter. About 1000 yards of metal is now stacked at Kiwitahi station. Walton-Kiwitahi Road: The metalling of the’first section is now practically completed, one mile in length being completed this spring. The other roads in the Walton Central Loan Area and the Piakoiti Area should now be put in order for metalling before they get too hard. Waitoa-Matamata Road in Walton Area can now be put in order for metalling and the work gone on with. ‘ v Alexander Road metalling is progressing slowly. Wardville Road: A small section 1 was rounded up and metalled. Stanley Road: 1& miles of the formation of this road is practically completed. .’ Fraser’s Bridge on the Te ArohaGordon road is now completed, and open for traffic. Wniorongomai Quarry is working well, and the balance of stripping is being removed. Diagonal Road Formation: This work is progressing well and should be completed in three weeks’ time. Metalling of the first portion can be commenced during the coming month. Mikk&lsen’s Road: The metalling of this, read has been commenced and will be carried on during the month. Mellin’s Road metalling is practically completed. Clothier’s Road metalling is near . completion. Eastport Road metalling can be proceeded with as soon as funds are available. *. Mangaiti Bridge Repairs: The piles are now in the station and the work can be gone on with at once. No. 1 Road Bitumen Sealing: 250 tons of ashphalt has arrived and is on the ground ready to start work. A sprayer should now be purchased and clean metal placed on the ground ready. Wakahora Drain Culvert: Plans for this work have been forwarded to the 4 Public Works Department for approval. Metal Supplies: During the month the chairman and myself visited the Thames and other parts of the district with the view to supplementing our metal supply.
