FARM ENGINES

EXEMPTION FROM INSPECTION For some time past an endeavoui has been made by the Farmers’ Union, the Council of Agriculture, and the Board of Agriculture, to secure exemption of the farmers’ engines from inspection under the Machinery Act, as it was recognised that practically nothing was achieved by such inspection. An amending measure was introduced in the House of Representatives, but did not get past the Labor Bills Committee, where, it is surmised, the expressed objections of the Labor unions to the exemptions were supported.' The Board of Agriculture is again pressing the matter, and at its last meeting endorsed its previous support of a measure of relief .for (lie farmers.
