PROHIBITION
APPEAL OF WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION Read the Military Banned book “ Defeat,” by Arthur Mee. “ We shall lose a million pounds by Prohibition," cry the Brewers. “We shall save a million boys by Prohibition,” cry the Mothers. We women plead for Prohibition which really means “ Home Protection.” The Brewers say, “ Let us make money,” but we, with God, say, “ Let us make Men.’’ What about the Revenue ? “If thy revenue cause thee to sin, cut it off. It were better for- thee to enter Heaven with a deficit, than having a surplm bs cast into Hell.” Remember, it is righteousness and not revenue ihat exalteth a nation, “ Rise up ye women that sit at ease, give ear to my word, ye careless daughters. Tragedy, piin, and death are iu our land from a preventible cause, aud the weeping women, the shy girls, the nervous mothers, the shrinking daughters, are called to take up the cross to save the Sons of Britain. “ Call for the women that they may come.' . for Death is come to cut off the children, aud the young men.”— Jeremiah ix, 17-21. “We are all now fighting the terrible red plague.”
Drink leads to the sin that causesthe loathsome veneral disease, intensifies the suffering, and lessens the victim's hope of recovery.”—Hon. Russell. Dr. Platts Mills says : “ Women are the unhappy victims of sin&j not their own, and children are borC/* —bliud, diseased, and crippled^ through the fathers’ early sins.” We are losing the one great absolute need of our country to-day. ITS MANPOWER, through Drink and Drink's attendant vices. “It is not the will of your Father that one should perish,” but by the will ol the Brewer, thousands perish. Which will YOU stand for ? Boys or Beer ? Men or Money ? Wives or Whisky ? Girls' or Gold ? Mothers or Misery ? God or Greed ? Men and women of every Church and creed join us in a great prayer campaign to rid our laud of Drink’s cruel tyrauny. Pray in your homes, your churches, your meetiugs, gather your neighbours to pray, then go out 100,000 strong, to pray in the bars and public thoroughfares, until the overwhelming power oE God, working through hearts that the Liquor- Traffic into oblivion. “ This' evil goeth not out by prayer aud fasting.’’—Mark ix, 29. Isaiah Iviii: “ We have not yet resisted unto blood striving against sin.” But we are ready to do so now. If our boys are dying because of this evil, we will die to save them from it. No hatchets, no axes, no destruction of property, for “ the weapons of our warfare are not casual, but mighty through God to the pulling down of the strongholds of evil.” As meek as the gentle Master we will do and dare to save our Nation from the destruction that is threatening it. “God shall answer by terrible things righteousness,” and we by passionate pleading prayer shall “ lift up the gates and open the doors and let the KiDg of Glory iu.” Women want it to join our W.C.T.U., to working any way, send names to nearest local union or direct to Mrs LeeCowie, organiser, S trength of Nation Movement, Invercargill. Every woman, come and help our nation iu its need.
