THE FESTIVE SEASON IN TE AROHA Once again the near approach of Christmas has caused the business community of progressive TeArohato prepare for the Festive Season. A 1 though the Great War which h is now waged forseventeen months has made a considerable difference in the life of every town in the Dominion, by reason of the number that have left the country to fight for the Empire, there are outward and visible signs that the general observance of Christmas will not differ greatly from that of former years. Certain it is that the business portion of the town has never appeared in brighter hue than it does this week, and it speaks well for the up-to-date methods of the tradespeople that this is so. On all sides can be seen evidence of v special efforts being made in the way of displaying to advantage the various stocks applicable to the season of the year. HETHERINGTONS LTD. The well known firm has in the ready to wear department a splendid assortment of lines for the present season including blouses, voile dresses and trimmed milliuery, which ' will attract plenty of eager purchasers this week. In the Fancy Department may be seen handkerchiefs, gloves, hand bags, & perfumes. The household department is replete with up-to-date goods, while in men’s clothing there is a very wide selection of suits, hats, shirts, ties and summer clothing. In boots, summer lines predominate.

bruce’s busy stores These stores are catering very fully for the Christmas trade. Leading lines are Swan brand hams, a full range of Heintz specialties, pickles etc., tasty lines in fancy cheese, Camembert & Gorgonzola, Guryere & Stilton, preserves, English strawberry conserve, Robertson’s marmalade, green fig, Tangerine and Pine apple ; Old English plum puddings in tins, meat and tongues. Confectionery is also displayed for Christmas, while in fancy china and glassware there is a nice variety. J. The Box Suit department is replete with the very latest in materials and cuts to fit any figure. In boots higher grade stock than ever is shown at very nominal rates.

In the show room there are children's dresses, silk frocks, and bonnets, print frocks, cream coat*, ladies silk muslin and lace blouses, piques, white voile dresses and millinery.

The fancy department contains a very nice stock of presentation goods, and the Men’s Department has the latest in ties, panama, tennis, and bowlers’ bats, tennis players’ outfits and box suits.

Wigg’s well assorted stock of ironmongery there are numberless lines most suitable for presents, while the electro plate ware cutlery and fancy goods are most attractive for the purpose. J. P. KIRBY At the Central Stores there is a special Xmas display, which is attracting ample business. Maconochie’s strawberry conserve, Aulsebrook’s fancy biscuits, Kirkpatrick’s raspberry vinegar, lemon cheese, mincemeat, muscatels, almonds, nuts, English plum puddings, Chinese ginger in jars, and all other lines of groceries generally asked for at this season of the year have also received attention from Mr Kirby. THE OLD PHARMACY Mr Routley, the manager, has many summer requisities, and also a good range of presentation lines. JOHN WILLIAMS At both shops in Bell’s buildings Mr Williams has first class displays of fancy goods, crockery, glassware, nick nacks, toys, view ware, art goods books, and in fact articles too num erous to particularise. TK AROHA BACON COMPANY A busy time is in store for the Company at its shop where very large quantities of bacon, hams, poultry aud the primest cuts ,in lamb, mutton, beef and pork will be in great request from now to Christmas Eve. The Company is quite prepared for the big trade that will be duly registered.
