On Wednesday morning the judges acting at the Show were taken for a run round the immediate district by Mr G. Alley in his mptor car. They expressed pleasure at the signs of progress that were evident everywhere.

At the S-M. Court yesterday, before Messrs G. Parker and T. M. Pattullo, John Box was brought up on of drunkenness. Pie was dischanged on the first, and fined 3s and 15s respectively on the others.

One of the best features of the Thames Valley Show this week was the general satisfaction given by the various judges. All seem to have filled their positions with credit to themselves, and their decisions in almost every class were quite in accord with the ideas of critical onlookers. Where this was not so, the judge was always able to satisfactorily explain why the award was made

The well-known Park House is at present in the hands of the builders being pulled down, preparatory to the erection of up-to-date shops for Mr W. H. Herbert.

Now is the time to post Christinas Cards to the Boys at the Front. A splendid selection of Patriotic Cards just to hand are now on view at Mrs Rayner’s.

A County clerk is expected to be a man of many parts. But a request that reached the clerk of the Mackenzie County Council was surely somewhat outside the scope of what might be expected of him. In response to a demand for overdue rates a ratepayer tendered him a Shorthorn bull, for sale and returns, asking that the rates should be deducted from the proceeds. None of the councillors present at the meeting on Wednesday (says the Timaru Herald) offered to assist him. But he is anxious to have a prospective buyer in view before the-ratepayer makes delivery.

Exhibitors at the Thames Valley this week declared that they had never been treated better at any Show than they were this year at Te Aroha, in regard to green feed for stock. This was due partly to the very generous gift of Mr J. B. Morrison, who gave the Association all the green feed they required from.his Ruakaka section.

John Lacey, charged with a breach of the peace in Whitaker St. on Tuesday was taken before Messrs Pattullo and Parker J.P-’s at the S. M. Court yesterday. He was convicted and fined 10s.

The Christmas number of the “ N. Z. Illustrated Sporting aud Dramatic Review ” has now been issued and is an artistic production of great merit. The illustrations are printed in a variety of colours which set off the many fine scenic views to advantage. Picturesque scenes in various parts of the Dominion form a feature of the issue which also contains a delightful series of bathing, 3'achting and motor ing snapshots. The undoubted attractions of the Far North are set forth in a number of beautiful views. Typical view# of the scenic beauties of Taranaki, Southern Alps, Hawaii are also included in the brilliant s.eries.’ Portraits pf well-known artistes of, the stage, sotpe pretty sidelights on the war, together with bright qmd original reading matter make the issue an ideal Christmas souvenir.

On Wednesday Pat O’Shea, alias King, who was arrested on a warrant charged with fraudulently obtaining board and lodging at Te Aroha House between 25th and 29th November, was brought before the S.M. Couit, Te Aroha. He was convicted and fined £ 5, or in default 14 days in gaol.

The Thames Valley A.P. and H. Association inserts a notice to-day relative to gift calves. It is requested by the Executive that those who have donated calves will send them to the next Waihou sale on 17th inst instead of in F'ebruary as previously intended,

Members of the Te Aroha Municipal Brass Ban I are requested, by advertisement, to hand in for in spection, on Tuesday next, uniforms, instruments, etc.

The unveiling of a memorial to the late Lieutenant Milliken, +'h Waikato Mounted Rifles, will take place on Sunday next in the Anglican C-hurch, Te Aroha. A Church Parade commencing at 2.15 p.m. from the Domain will precede the unveiling. All members of the Forces on leave or returned soldiers, and members of the National Reserve and the Rifle Club are invited to attend.

A very enthusiastic working bee met on the Show grounds, Herriesville, yesterday, to clear up the enclosure. Those present were the President (Mr J. A. Clothier), Messrs H. O. Cooper, M. O'Grady, A. Rutherford, F. E. Hughes, T. Stanley, C. McNicol, Geo. Stewart, W. Woods, G. Goodfellow, R. Burke, J. Strange, A. J. Ballard and the secretary. A s the train {with the judges aboard passed through Herriesville, these members of the executive gave them a rousing cheer.. Miss Clothier very kindly supplied refreshments to the workers, which was greatly appreciated. Patterns of the designs appearing in our weekly supplement are obtainable from Miss Ida Meller. Orders sent to this office will be im ediately forwarded."
