To see so many spectators on the gre, n brought back to one’s mind the goo 1 o d days of twenty years ago, when thKatikati and Taurang.t boys would ride over the hills to try their strength with Waiorongomai, but most of the old h inds are scattered far and wide now and it is the ‘* chips of the old bat ” that we see taking their place at the crease aud of whom wfe are justly’ proud. The visitors, who arrived by the 1 p.m train were driven by brake to Waiorongomai and back, in the c ipable hands of Mr J. Robinson, aud re' urned home by the “ Wild Cat,” feeling well-satisfied with their day’s outing. Mi - W. Greening took the duties of umpire for Waiorongomai, and Mr Lowry for Morriusville, both gentlemen giving entire satisfaction. During the afternoon Mr Stanley Berghofer, of photographic fame, took several groups of players and spectators, etc., and we hope to see some good results liter on. In all probability the “ Waiorongomai Colts ” will play* the return mutch at Morrinsville next Saturday, when it is expee'ed an “ all day* ” match will eventuate. —Social Evening. The host and hostess left no stone unturned to make their guests enjoy a pleasant evening. The crowning cup being the excellent supper which was handed around at 10 30 p.m.
During the evening several songs were sung, Mr P. George Coning deserving special mention for liis r- ndering of * When Sparrows Bui'd.” Mr A. McGruer, in a neat speech, on behalf of those present thanked Mr and \Mrs Hill for the very pleasant evening spent, and trusted that the time was not far off when not only would more houses be enlarged, but that many new ones would have to be erected.
Mr Hill suitably replied on behalf of himself and Mrs Hill, and the singing of “ Old Lang Syne ” brought to a close one of the most enjoyable evenings spent in Waiorongomai for some time.
