The Licensing Elections.
“ MODERATE ” TICKET RETURNED FOR AUCKLAND.
I Auckland, March 9. The election of the Licensing Committee for Auckland resulted after the keenest contest ou recon I in the defeat of the candidates pledged to the maximum reduction of licenses, which would have entailed the closing of 14 hotels. The Citizens’ League (Moderate) ticket was retumeu, the voting being as follows :—L. J. Bagnall 6567, J. J. Holland 6495, J. M. Mennie 6427, Dr. King 6380, W. C. Somers 6166.
The voting for the other candidates was : M. Casey 5424, P. Cheal 5373, G. Aickin 5185, W. Rees 5007, A. Rosser 4400, the foregoing representing the No liceuse ticket; and Wm. Richardson 2581, J. Jamieson 751, Mrs Nicol 458, the last three named bang Independents
THE MANUKAU.
Auckland, March 9.
In the Manukau the Temperance party has on present figures got in 3 candidates out of 5, but the returns are incomplete.
KEEN CONTEST AT RICCARTON.
Christchurch, March 9,
Much interest is taken in the Licensing Committee election to-day for Riccarton. Both sides are running tickets, and it is understood if no-license wins no licenses will be issued lor the race courses, show grounds, or Addington sale yards.
