Morrinsville Town Board.

Own Com spoudent. A special meeting of the Town Board was held in the Conucil Chambers on Monday evening, to receive tenders for the storm water drainage, and to consider various other matters, There were present the Chairwan (S. S. Allen), F. J. Marshall, C. Manuel, S. C. Parlour, W. C. Pickett, J. M. Clifford, and H. J. Clifford. Mr Sims, engineer in charge of the drainage s.heme, was also in attendance. Being a special meeting there were no minutes to confirm. The following tenders were received : R. A. Andrews, for McFadden and Co., of Hamilton, £334 10s 8d ; Walter Weston, of Hamilton £297 os. The engineer’s estimate was £3OO. Decided that the lowest tender be accepted, providing he find two approved sureties of £IOO each, engineer to make the necessary enquiries and to communicate with the Chairman with a view of accepting the other tender. Should the lowest not prove satisfactory the engineer was empowered to extend the work so as to expend the full amount of the grant,—The engineer submitted detailed plans of the permanent levels of the principal streets. Discussion deferred till next meeting. - The matter of printing or painting the Pound Notice Board was left to the Chairman and Clerk to get done as soon as possible.— Messrs Pickett and Parlour were appointed a sub-committee to report at next meeting as to the best manner of assisting the Volunteer Fire Brigade.—A reply w r as received from the Inspector of Telegraphs, to the Board’s request to have the Telephone Exchange onen from 8 a. m„ stating that the hours are fixed 9 a.m to 5 p.ir. until such time as there are more than fifty subscribers Letter was received.—Letter from Secretary to the Treasury requesting information re loan for road works. —Decide! that Clerk forward necessary information and inquire when the money will be available, as the Board is anxious to proceed with the work before the winter. - A plan of proposed site being given by Frankton Town Boa d for Departmental Buildings was received and a request for the Board’s support in having them erected thereon. —Decided that no action be taken. —Mr W. S. Allen wrote inviting the members of the Board to bo present at the annual school picnic, to be held at Aunaudale on Wednesday, 10th March. —The Clerk was instructed to write ' thanking Mr Allen and accepting the invitation. The Chairman’s action in appointing H. Rogers as dog tax collector was endorsed, the Board to receive one third of the net proceeds.—A Gazette notice of the days adopted by the various districts for the half holiday, was received.— Notice was received from ihe Valuation Department, requesting the Board to appoint an assessor.
