MORRINSVILLE
There was a large entry of stock at the local yards on Friday, the accommodation being taxed to the utmost. Good classes of stock brought fair prices, inferior lines being easier. Mr Milson, of Makora, received a line of 800 ewes from Palmerston North during the week via the Main Trunk Line.
The Magistrates Court sits here on Tuesday, when about eighteen cases will come up for decision. Messrs Beeson are making steady progress with the erection of the bridge over the Piako River on the Kereone Road, the sills for which were taken on to the site by Mr Butler with his traction engine, being immense pieces of totara weighing about two tons each, and were therefore too heavy for ordinary waggons to cart. The annual school picnic is to be held at Annaudale on Wednesday next, Mian d Mrs Allen having again generously invited the scholars and their friends there for a day’s pleasure, which kindness cannot be too highly appreciated, the spot being an ideal one. Thejwant of rain is being much felt, the country bearing a parched appearance, and those depending on tanks for their supply are already feeling the shortage, while the roads are fast becoming nothing but dust, and with stock constantly travelling matters are not improved. The approach to the station on the Thames line is always hard for a heavy trainlto negotiate owing to the incline, but it was brought, to a complete standstill the other day, owing to a leakage in the hose causing the breakes to creep on.
