Waitoa Items.

(From our own Correspondent.)

Tim dangerous practice of throwing st nes, indulged in by many |boas, was the cause of an accident at Waitoa on Friday afternoon. As a litt e girl nam-d Marga et C'chnno wis ruling across the Bridge at Waitoa, returning home from school, a school boy who had hidden under the bridge, struck the pony the little one was riding with a stone, causing the : nimal to shy violently, throwiug the child heavily on the road. Fortunately, beyond a severe shaking, and some bruises, the child was not hurt, as the pony was proceeding at a walk ng pace, otherwise the result might have been very serious. It is a matter for regret that school teachers have uot the authority to put a stop to larrikinism on the part of children, while going home from school, as in these days the average parent troubles but little about their childrens’ behaviour. __
