MINING NEWS.
Coromaxdel, September 1. Rovaii O\k. — The mine manager reports that the east of the rise has been discontinued, owing to the hangingwall leader taking a sudden turn towards the Tribute reef, which was broken into. The footwall reef continues along, but has got more underlie and nob so well defined. He has started on No. 3 cross head to prospect the reef upwards, which shows fine body of good-looking 1 stone going up. For the week, tributers have got about 301bs. picked stone from No. 2 level rising close to the Poverty leef, top drive on No. 2 reef, where a new road has been laid. There are good prospects in what seems to be a branch from No. 3 reef. To kate a G.M. Co. — The mine manager reports : " 1 have to report that Wm. Duncan and party on No. 1 and 2 Blocks have extended then* drive 20 feet on the lode from which their last crushing was obtained, and have seen colours of gold, but no specimens have been found. Still they have good hopes of better results, and are working the ground satisfactorily. No. 6 Bluck is occupied by Wells and McKeown ; at present they are employed in putting in a new surface drive io cut the Excelsior reef ; 20 feet is completed, but it will take 20 feet more to cut the reef. No. 8 Block : Steele and Dyer have not found any gold at the low level yet ; they work well and secure the works in a practical manner. McHalpin and party have cut the reef in No. 7 Block. The stone luoks well, and has every indication of yielding gold. Roberts and party will crush a parcel this week."
Thames, September 1. New AJanukau. — The monthly clearing-up took place yesterday afternoon for a return ot 38oz retorted gold from 25 tons quartz. Piunte Imperial.— The crushing is proceeding. There are 18 loads of quartz to be put through. Saxox, — The drive at No. 5 level is passing through an excel ent class of country, and the contractors are making good headway. There is no change to report in the stopes, which continue to produce quartz of payable grade. Newberry-Vauten. — The contractor for the erection of this plant on the foreshore has now obtained the necessary timber, and has resumed the work of putting up the framework for the reception of the machinery. Dr. Schiedel is basily engaged fitting up his laboratory and getting everything in order. New Manukau. — Colours of gold are still seen in the quartz coming to hand from the stopes.
