TOWN BOARD.

The following is a full report of the special meeting- of the Te Aroha Town Board, (adj turned from Satuiday evening previous) held on Monday evening, 14th inst, b'ieflly referred to in our hist issue. There were prestut : Corns. Dobson, (chair) Frazer, and Uotchen. The meeting was convened for the purpose of opening and dealing with tenders, which had been invited for thu re mo val of night soil, ollice of Hunger, etc. etc. Tljo following- is a copy of the specifications drawn up by the clerk for the infor mation of intending conti actors for removal of night soil, on behalf of the Boaid for tho term ot: two years : ♦' Tenders — To specify piice for removing night soil ; emptying closet boxes at per box ; emptying cos-p .ols .it per cubi.j yard, and supplying with earth. All work to be done to the satisfaction of the Town Bi'urd. Contractor t > find two sureties of j£2s each, and to enter into his own recognizance in tho bum of £50 for tin* faithful performance of his duties. The dep6t to be provided by the contractor and to bo approved of by th« Board. Lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted .. " The following tjiidcrs weio received, viz., — From J. Robinson, — lSinpt ing closet boxes Is 4d per box, oesspoo aat 1 5s per cubic yard, and supplying eaith at o*s b' l per cubic }aid. Depot for night soil — Mr \V. Hetherington a farm, near The Pah. From VV. Hctherington : — Emptying closet boxes Is 2d per box, cesspools at 14b 9d per cubic yard, and supplying earth 3s 6d per cubic yard. Dej.ot for night soil — his farm, near The Pah. If it were binding on householders to employ the contractor for the removal of night soil, ie was likewise binding on theu to receive the supplies of earth from the contractor, at least that was the construction could be put upon the wording of the specifications and tenders ho thought, lie was of opinion there was nothing whatever in tho Bye Laws to compel local residents to employ tho contractor either for the lemoval of night soil or iKA regards supplies of earth. Hotchin contended that the specifications were almost identically similar, as regai ds the wording of tlu agreement, with those in force in Auckland, ami elsewhere, nnd referred to the expeiience he had had ia these matters. Coins. F razor : The pioper course, I consider, would have been tj have framed the agreement the contractor was expected to sign before calling for tenders. On tho motion of Coins. Frazer, seconded by Coins. Dobson, it was resolved that VV. fclethriu^tons tender be uucop.ed, subjoct to an agreement that the Board be not held responsible for the collection of accounts. Some discuhbion took pla n o relative to t'le most advisable form of receptacle for night soil. Coins. Hotchen said : They weio nearly all boxes that were used in Auckland. Absenting Members — Tho following letter, from Mr B.
