In our last issue an error occurred in the third line of the lending article, the words " Our district being set up as " one district," and escaped correction at the time. Special meeting of the members of tho Gordon Settlement at Waiorongomai Public Hall to-night. In our to-day's supplement will be found some interesting 1 correspondence re the recent trial crushings at Waiorongomai. Residents in this district know how the proprietors of the New Era plant have been hampered, and the many difficulties they have had to contend with all aloug, in the erection of their bat tery. On Tuesday evening last Professor Lio Medo gave one of his well known and popular entertainments in the Te Aroha Public Hall. Owing to the very unpropitious weather, the attendance was smaller than it would otherwise have 'been, but those who were present had a very enjoyable evening. The Professoris a most fluent speaker with good elocutionary abilities, and in the course of his very able entertainment, his many numerous touches, elicited hearty laughter. He recited in excellent style' the address of Sergeant Buzfuz to the jury in the case of Bardell v. Pickwick, and in his platform examination, made some clever hits. The Professor, as will be seen by advertisement, will appear at Paeroa Public Hall on next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and will no doubt draw good houses. At a conference of tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce, held on Wednesday last, to discuss what steps could be taken to promote + he mining industry of >the Hauroki Peninsula,- the following reBOlution was passed : " That the Chairman of the Chamber communicate with the Minister of Mines as to the necessity of importing an expert from America, or elsewhere, to report upon the treatment of the various classes of ores in the Hauraki GoldSeldjand th.it the Government be asked to subsidise liberally local contributions towards this object. Vast wealth is lying dormant for lack of knowledge to win* it." The resolution was forwarded to the Minister of Mine?, together with a lengthy letter on the subject, drawing attention to the reports of various experts proving be - yond doubt the great value and extent of the reefs in the district referred to. The usual monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Public Library Committee will bo held on next Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. ! The Palanee hotel, Te Aroha, has j changed hands, Mr John Ebert being the 1 new proprietor, and to him a temporary transfer of the license was granted by the Licensing Committe this week. Monthly meeting of the Te Aroha School Committee on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Since Monday last the rainfall has been very excessive this week ; in f.ict such a succession of wet dajf, with scarcely any break, as we are experiencing is quite unusual, even for this time of year. Te Aroha Club Hotel.— Visitors list for week ending September 3rd :— Mr Devereux, Miss Howard, Miss Vaughan, Miss Vere, Miss Montrose, Auckland ; MiHay, Mr Barton, Mr Biggs, Hamilton ; Mr Haddow, Nelson ; Mr Bain, Dunedia. The quarterly meeting of the Te Aioha Licensing Committee will be held to-day at noon in the Court House. Tho only business to come before the meeting, will be 'the transfer of the license of the Club Hotel, Te Aroha, from Thomas Haywood to Emily Jex. As will be seen by advertisement in this issue tenders are invited by the Waior,ongomai Gr.M. Co. from parties prepared to work the mine on tribute. Notification is given by advertisement in this issue that-poison has been laid for dogs on Mr Larkworthy's estate, Waitoa. Mr Jas. Warren, hotel keeper, Te Aroha, has filed a petition to be adjudged a bankrupt. See advertisement. i We would direct attention to Messrs Alfred Bucktand and Co's announcements i of forthcoming sales, which appear in this issue. To-day, at Cambridge, in addition to a large quantity of produce; etc. 1500 j sheep and 70 horses will be offered. Monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Domain Boardjthiß evening. The usual monthly meeting of the Waitoa Road Board was held on Saturday last at Morrinsville, present : the chairman (Mr Chepmell) and Messrs Ilorrell and Burnett. Th« following tenders were opened for forming a further portion, 58 chains, of the Maungakawa- Waiorongomai road. Hogan and party, £204 16s 6d ; Saqnders and party £159 7s 9d ; Mikkelson and party, £105, ; Collett and Thaxter, £101 18s ; J. OBrien, £100 ; Collins and Voysey, £79 19s 2d, (accepted). The levying of the proposed rate, was of necessity, and for the second time postponed, owing to tke roll for native lands not having been received.

The large drain through the Te Arolia D.F. block, tho contract fcr which was taken by J. Wiseman from the Waitoa Road Board, and by him sub-let to Cauclwell and pavty (particulars of which have appeared already in our columns), was recently completed, and Mr Ptivitt, engineer for tho Wnitoa Road Board has passed the work as satisfactory. Tho framo work of Mr Geo, Lipsey's new dwelling house, To Aroha, is all early up); it will contain seven rooms, arid the site is an excellent one, close to tho township, sufficiently elevated to command an extensive view, situated about midway between the main Thames-To Aroha road and railway, the surrqunding land being of good quality.
