THE THERMAL SPRINGS. VALUABLE TESTIMONIALS.

The following testimonials from gentlemen who have within the past fow weeks derived great benefit from a sojourn at Te Aroha, anil using its mineral waters, have beou handed to us for publication. The first is from Captain T. Fraser, M.L.C., Dunedin, the second from Mr J. W. Balfour, manager of the Bank of N.Z., Napier, the third from Mr Wm. Haddow, J.P., Nelson • — (to the editor.) Sir. — I shall be pleased if you will give me an oppotunity through the medium of your paper of publicly expressing my opinion of the Te Aroha springs. Since my residence here, from what I have seen and heaid, I am convinced that these springs contain extraordinery curative properties for the following complaints : suppressed gout, rheumatism in all its forms, dyspepsia and cutaneous disorders; and as the springs are proved to contain heavy traces of lithia, they must be efficaceous in renal complaints. It is a mystery tome how the Domain Board have, with the small sum of money at their command, been able to erect six comfortable bath houses, and a tasteful drinking fountain, to say nothing of the fencing, extensive drainage and plantations. To Mr Crump, the able engineer of the domain, I am indebted for the greatest courtesy. The management of the Domain reflects the greatest credit on the direction. Wherever I go I shall, in the interests of humanity, make known the special virtues of the Te Aroha springs. — I remain, etc., T. Fraser. Te Aroha, Sept. 3rd, 1886. To the'above we may add that Capt. Fraser informed us he had written to Sir Julius Vogel, urging him in the strongest manner to pay Te Aroha a visit, and give its baths a trial, as he felt sure Sir Julius would greatly benefit thereby, and that he was unaware of the really wonderful curative properties of its mineral waters. Speaking from personal experience, Capt. Frrtser said he considered Te Aroha and its baths far suppnor to any at Waiwcra.

The Chairman, Hot Springs Domain Beard, Te Aroha. Sir. — Before leaving to morrow morning for the South, I wish to testify to the very great relief, 1 have experienced from using the hot baths in your domain. I have been subject for many years to rheumatism, and in April last, had a very severe attack, which proved obstinate to shake off, and after trying vainly many remedies, was ordered to the hot springs. When I arrived here on the 2nd inst., I was suffering much from rheumatism, more especially in the head and feet, which prevented my slaeping at night, and made walking during the day a difficulty; but from using No. 2 bath for a little over three weeks, the pains have entirely left my head, and do not give any uneasiness in my feet ; in fact, I may safely and truly say, that at present, I am completely cured, and greatly improved in health. I should also wish to testify to the great civility, attention, mid unvarying courtesy, shown by Mr Crump, your engineer, and Mr McKee, your caretaker. I 'would respectfully submit, that greater .benefit to the public would be easily secured, by a greater and wide spread knowledge of the springs under your charge ; either by advertising, more especially in the southern papers, or by having Mr Pond's analysis printed on slips that could be posted'up in the public reading rooms ; railway stations etc., in the colony. — I am, sir, yours very truly, J. W. Balfouu Te Aroba, Aug. 27th, 1886.

(to the editor.) Sir.—Allow me through the medium of your columns to add my testimony to the value of the Te Aroha hot springs. A fortnight ago I arrived here, suffering from insomnia. I was advised to begin by using No. 6 bath ; this I continued to do for the first few days, tak> ing a bath both morning and evening. Latterly I have used No. 2 bath, and this, combined with the admirable shower baths, and drinking the mineral water, has had a most beneficial effect upon my health, which I am glad to say has been thoroughly restored. I am convinced the merits of your springs and mineral waters only require to be more widely known, to be greatly appreciated, and patronised by numbers of visitors and invalids, who, as yet, are unacquainted with their wonderful curative properties. Nature has done much for your district, you have a healthy salubrious climate, and an abundant supply of good water, within easy reach of the township. In order to make your district more attrac-

tiver it is desirable \o continue the improvements so well initiated in the doniain by tho -board and their engineer; make better footpaths in tho township; more especially ono leading to the post office, court house, and railway station is necessary, and no doubt other improvements will follow, when you obtain local self government, — I am, etc., Wra. Haddow. Te Aroba, 2nd September, 1886.

We have also seen a private letter, dated Aug. _ 15th, received by Mr G. Wilson, chairman of the Domain Board, from Mr Robert Wigmore, J.P., Mercury Bay, in which he refers to a Mr Cameron, of Wanganui, (an elderly gentleman who camo to Te Aroha in May last to avail of the baths, being at the time a great sufferer from rhenraotism), as follows : " I wish to let you know I had a letter from Mr Cameron, of Wanganui, who, you will remember stayed Te Aroha for a month and left the same day as I did. He informs me that for a short time after his return home, he felt, if anything worse rather than better, then a change took place, and in a couple of weeks, the rheumatism altogether disappeared ; and should things continue as at the time he wrote appeared probable, he would soon be as well as even he was in his life." We understand Mr Cameron principally made use of No. 2 room in the private bath-house, and the electric battery attached thereto.
