Donedin, August 31. After dropping for the principal character Id *• My Partner." Mr Rignold stepped en the ctage trap utilised in connection with the play, and instantly the wood work gave way, precipating him on to the floor of the cellar, some 16 to 17 feet below the stage. When picked up Mr Rignold complained greatly of his back, and was unable to walk without assistance. He was conveyed in a cab to the Grand Hotel. No one appears to know how the accident occurred. One of the scene shifters states that half an hour before the accident he went on to the tiap door and did not notice anything wrong, but he is not nearly of such bodily weight as Rignold. The sufferer has been examined by Dra. Brown and Alexander, who report no internal injury. The exact nature of his injuries is not ascertained, but it will be impossible for him to leave the room for some days. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr Rignold. The theatre will be shut till Mr Rignold is sufficiently recovered to enable him to re-appear, when be will play " My Partner " and " Alone " for his benefit.
