LATEST FOREIGN NfiWS. Hong Kong, Sept. 1. News is to hand from Corea that, fearing tho Russians, the Chinese ironclads recently anchored off the coast and landed a party of soldiers disguised. Upon' the latter reaching the shore they were attacked by a riotous mob *of Coreans, and compelled to return.
TERRIBLE MASSACRE OF CHRISTIANS. Reports have reached here of.a terrible massacre of Christians in North Cochin China, and in the Chinese province o£ Sochuen, and a number of villages inhabited by Christians arc reported burned.
GREAT EARTHQUAKES AND LOSS OF LIFE. Njkw .York:, Sept. 1* Very severe sl/ocks of earthquakes have been felt along the eastern seaboard, Alabama, and this city. The shock was felt strongest at Savannah, in Georgia, and at Charleston. At these to\vn& several houses fell, and sixty persons Kvere killed.
FURTHER HARROWING RETAILS. London, Sept. 1. Furthor intelligence received from south Carolina regarding earthquakes, gives harrowing details, the town oJ: Charleston is completely isolated ; bridges, railways, and telegraph lines being destroyed. Ten shocks nearly maddened the inhabitants, the dead being left still unburied. Many terrible affecting scenes were witnessed ; at Richmond, Virginia, the convicts in the city gaol made frantic efforts to escape. Town of Suinmerville has been nearly destroyed, and the damage to property in south Carolina is immense. Constantinople, September 1. Several severe bhocks ef earthqnake have been experienced at Smyrna, but no serious damage has resulted.
Malta, Sept. 1. A serious volcanic eruption has occurred on the Island of Galita, off the coast of Tunis.
London, Sept. 2. It is reported tbat fighting has occurred at Kustendje, a seaport town in Roumania, on the Black Sea, between a party of Bulgarian Loyalists and a regiment of Ra. domen (sic Roumanian). Numerous casualties resulted to both sides.
BEACH AND HANLAN. Beach'declares he will only ro*v Hanlan at Sydney. The Press recognise that Beach is the finest modern sculler. Russia has recalled the Consul who was supposed to be implicated in the seizure of Prince Alexander, and postponed the visit of Dogorouki.
