THE ELECTIONS.

London, July 2.—The following, prominent candidates have been elected to the new Parliament: — Samuel Whitebread, Liberal, Bedford ; W. H. Smith, Conservative, Htrand Division, London; Sir M. Hicks-Beach, Conservative, Bristol West Division ; Herbert; Gladstone, •Leeße, West Division (by tf large majority J^'Lord KandolpK Chnrchill, Paddin^ton, South Division (by a greater majority than at the last general election) j Came, for Barro WL-ih* Furnees. The statetnentpreviously telegraphed that 265 members had been elected without opposition is erroneous. Candidates for that number ot seats are unopposed, and they represent the party divisions stated — namely : 55 31adstonites, 46 Unionist?,^ Conservatives, 68 Parnellites. The actual returns of those elected without opposition show : 15 Conservatives, 8 Unionists, 8 Gladetonites, and include the following in addition to the" names already "telegraphed :—: — Sir Robert Fowler and John Hubbard, Conservatives, for the City of Lyndon ; C P. Mowbray Talbor, Conservative, Oxford, University; Sir John Lubbock, Liberal, London University ; Dr. McDonald, Conservative, Edinburgh University; Mr James Campbell, Conservative, Glasgow University ; Mr Trotter, Conservative, Colchestei.

s London, July 4. The latest election returns show 148 Conservatives, 26 Unioni&ts, 54 Gladstonites, and 17 Parnellites. The following are re-elected : —Robert Bourke, Conservative. Kingslynn ; Lionel Cohen, Consen rative, Paddington North; Peter Rylands, Liberal, Burnley ; Thomas Roe and Sir Wm. Vernon Harcour Liberals, Derby; John Clancey and Sir Thomas Esmonde, Nationists, Dublin. The seats for the following places held in the last Parliament by Liberals have been secured by Conservative? : — South Bristol, West Salford, South Salford, East Birmingham, and Swuth Nottingham The supporrers of Mr Gladstone defeated the Conservative for the Liverpool Exchange. Mr Bright (sic) is elected for Manchester South-west Division in place of Lord Frederick Hamilton, Conservative. Mr Schwann, Liberal carried the Conservative seat in the North Division of Manchester ; Mr Br'oadhurst, Liberal, was elected for Nottingham West Division; Mr Daveney was defeated for Stockport; Thomas Brassey, Liberal, was returned for Liverpool ; and Mr Hibbert, Liberal, for Old ham. The feature of the elections throughout the country is the increased voting on both sides. Wm. Jacks (Liberal) has been returned unopposed for Leith. Jease Collinge (Liberal) has been elected for Ipswich by an immense majority. Peter Rylands (Liberal) has been returned fer Barnsley by a narrow majority. Strong Liberals are abstaining from voting.
