CHARGE OF MURDER. An Innocent Man Discharged. [BY TELEGRAPH -OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, June 29.
Yesterday afternoon, at the Police Court, John Roberts, arrested on suspicion of the murder of Edward Mullens, was brought up. The only witness examined was O. R, Brown, an employe* of the WellicgtonManawatu Railway, who swore that he saw Mullens on Saturday morning, which was a day after he was in the company of Roberts, thus proving the innocence of the accused. The magistrate said he had no hesitation in ordering that Roberts should bo discharged. In doing so he must say that, so far aa the present charge was concerned, there was no shadow cast upon his character. The evidence entirely relieved him from any suspicion of having caused the death of his friend.
