IS THERE NO AGE LIMIT?
The ranks of the Legislative Council having been sadly depleted, the National Government will have to make quite a number of appointments before Parliament meets—and that is next week. Probably the gentlemen to be so honoured have already been selcted—no difficult task seeing that Premier Massey and Sir Joseph Ward will have an equal selection. Mr. Massey has begun his selection by reappointing an octogenarian, Major Harris, who is no less than 82 years of age. Of course, the Chief of the Reformers was in an awkward position, for the Major, who was a Whip of the Conservative Party away back in the 80’s, has been a stauch supporter of the party. But he has already been 21 years in the Upper House, and should give way to a younger man. It is to be hoped that both political leaders will make their selections from the ranks of men who have practical success in their commercial, business, or professional careers.—'“Feilding Star.”
