I THE GERMAN OFFENSIVE. COLOSSAL BATTLE COMING. ROCK-LIKE RESISTANCE. NEW YORK, Feb. 19. Mr. W. P. Slmms, the United Press Asociation's corespondent on the West front, cables: "Civilisation is on the threshold of the most colossal battle of all time. The German offensive may be expected at any moment. Hindenburg and Ludcndorf f are ready to hurl all their resources into a fight to a finish. The Germans will use tanks for the first time, some equipped with mortars. The blow is expected south of Arras, and the Allies are thoroughly prepared to offer a rock-like resistance. % FRENCH REPORT. Received 11.50. ; LONDON, Feb 20. A French communique reports fairly great artillery activity in the Cham* pagne on the right bank of the Meuse From February 16 to 18 we brought down eighteen enemy machines. Rail way stations at Metz, Sablons, Forbach, and Bensdorf were bombed; also depots at Enseervem, where a big fire broke out.
