A MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT. «
ONE MAN KILLED, TWO INJURED,
HAWERA, this day.
A motor car fatality occurred on the South Road near Hawera lasfi evening. A car occupied by GeorgS Smith, farmer, of Kapuni, John Paw* son, contractor, Kapuni, and Steward; Wilson Monteith, a bank clerk at Hawera, capsized, pinning the thre* men underneath. When extricated It was found that Monteith had beefl killed; Pawson sustained a knee, and was removed to the host pital. His condition is critical. SmitH escaped with minor injuries. Moll-* teith's parents reside at Reefton. H& was twenty-one years of age, and wa§ shortly entering the Expeditionary Force camp. The party were returning from Opunake. The survivors ard not sufficiently recovered to give ai? account of how the accident hap* pened. j FOUND DEAD IN A DRAIN. GISBORNE, this day. ' Enoch Richards, storekeeper afl Waipaoa, was found dead, face down* wards, in a drain on Saturday even« ing He left town by the afternoon! train, and must have disembarked at the first station. He was found deafl shortly after. There are no suspicious circumstances.
