men.
SPLENDID PROGRESS BY BRITISH.
GERMANS SUFFER TERRIBLE LOSSES.
| LONDON, July 17. Sir 1 Douglas Haig reports: The
troops north-west of Bazentin-le-Petit Wood stormed! and captured the German second line positions on a front of 1500 yards. The large plumber of German dead in this sector bears evidence to the very heavy casualties suffered since the advance began. East of Longueval we have still further widened the gap between the second line, capturing the strongly defended position of Waterloo Earm on the left bank. In Ovillers-La Boiselle,.-where continuous hand-to-hand fighting has continued since the 7th, we captured the remaining strongholds of the enemy, including two officers and 124 Guardsmen, who were the remnants of its brave garrison. The whole Village is now in our hands.
