RANGITIKEI A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

Fifth Winter Show.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION,

The Fifth Annual Winter Show, under the auspices of the Rangitikei Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was opened to-day, in the Taihape Town Hall and it promises to be an Unqualified success. The Committee have worked indet'atigably to ensure a good function, and their efforts are now being rewarded.

The entries constitute a record, and the standard of the exhibits is higher than ever. In the poultry section there are 275 entries, and the quality of the various exhibits is very good indeed. A number of the birds, in fact, took several prizes at the show recently •held at Palmerston North and Hastings. If the local breeders keep on improving their breeds as they have done in the last two or three years, then Taihape breeders will earn a well-deserved reputation. Numerous exhibits have been received from outside exhibitors showing that the Show is gaining prominence outside the district.

Field roots this year are of exceptionally good quality and are the best ever seen at a local show. Garden produce is also first class and the exhibits are a great credit to the district. One particularly noticeable feature is the collection of vegetables, No. 134, by Mrs W. J. Foster, of Ruanui. There are only three classe s in the first section, but the entries in each are large and the quality of the exhibits all round is very good. As is usual in the Home Industries section the classes have filled very well, and ther is keen competition all through. Practically all the exhibits in this section are placed in the supper room, which has proved none too large for the purpose. The Art Sections are also well filled, and some splendid work is exhibited. A fancy bedsprea , which is being shown (for exhibition only) by Mrs Whitehead of Mataroa, is attracting great attention.;.: , '■ ] ' . •.."' '•.:>:

In one corner of the hall the Women's (Working Club -have a stall, and articles are being sold to swell the funds. The committee of the .Club will be pleased to receive donations from exhibitors, and all articles unsold at the conclusion of the Show will be auctioned. The Club has been doing exceedingly useful work for the troops, and deserve all possible assistance. The secretary (Mr A. M. Ryan) has everything well arranged, and the president (Mr D. Addis) and Mr Ryan deserve every credit for. the results achieved. ■ ■ •> ': •' Following is a list of the prizes' awarded: GARDEN PRODUCE. Carrots, Shorthorn, 6 roots. —W. J. Forster 1 and 2, E.
