TAIHAPE DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

OPENING OP SEASON 1915-16. j The weather conditions for the opening clay of the above Club were excellent, and a large gathering of visitor.'and riflemen responded to the Club*'; I invitation. The President (Mr. J. G t . Turn bull, welcomed the visitors, including memjbers of the Te Kapua Rifle Club, i The opening shct was fired by Mrs. J. G. Turnbull, who registered bull's-eye and declared the season du'y opened. [ A Sweepstake Match, at 200 yard-. ' was tired in aid of the Wounded Soljdiers' Fund, the winning team luivin.o the right to allocate the amount in support of any of the Queen Candidates. President J. G. Turnbull's team won by a narrow margin, and as a result the proceeds will go in favour of ''Our Beys' " Candidate. A Teams' Match, at 300 and 500 yards, between Te Kapua and Taihape, resulted in a win for Te Kapua by 257 points to 276. The individual scores arc:—

The Ladies' Match was well contested, about 20 participating. Mrs. W. E. Matlue proved victorious and won the trophy presented by Mrs. TurnbuDl. The thanks of the Club are due to the many ladies who provided and asIsisted with the luncheon and afternoon tea, and it was largely due to their efforts that the opening was such a success.
