SUICIDE BY POISON. V AUCKLAND, This Day.

Thcma s Owens, single, a native of Tasmania, labourer, committed suicide by poisoning himself at Groves’ boarding house, Karhia. He wrote on the looking glass with shaving soap, “Good-bye, suffered from insomnia.”

FOUND DEAD.

' IN A FIREPLACE. PAHIATUA, This Day. Robert David Monk, aged eighteen years, a strappnig young fellow, employed by G. H. Cornelius, farmer, Mangahao, was found dead in his whare this morning, lying with his face in fffo fireplace. He appeared alright when seen last night, but had complained lately of giddiness. There ■was no sign of struggle, and the indications are that Monk had been repairing an acetylene bicycle lamp. He is believed to have relatives at Ashhurst. A post mortem will be held.

William Keith and Samuel White, charged with attempting to break and enter at Eltham, were brought bf’Vre the Chief Justice to-day for sentence. Counsel for White said the prisoner had a mania for tunnelling; he was subject to epileptic fits and was in poor health. His Honour said the prop?r course wtes to send both men away to some pit ice where they could get open *dr treatment. He would recommend that White be sent to the treeplanting camp at Waipa, and Keith to Kaingaroa. The sentence would be two years’ imprisonment in each case.
