THE NEW LOAN.

SMALL MEN SUBSCRIBE. Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 7. The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey) said to-day that reference had been made in some papers to the sales of the new loan stock at prices below the issue value of the loan. These transactions were all known to the Treasury, and he hoped, in a few days, to publish the amounts involved. He could not, of course, divulge the name of the persons concerned. It would be found, however, that the amount of the sales was quite trifling compared with the amount of the loan. An interesting feature of the loan notation, which had been reported to him by the Treasury, was the large number of men of comparatively small means who were taking an interest in the loan.
