The ITou. G. .7. Smith, M.L.0., and Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., were amongst the passengers from Wellington by the ferry steamer 'Maori this morning. Mr ,T. B. Laurenson. who is taking up his resilience at. Thames, left with his family for the north last night.
Cabled advice from London states that Archbishop Redwood sailed yesterday by the Tainui for Australia. Mr Joshua Little, who is a patient in the Christchurch Hospital, is reported to be in a very serio.is condition of health. Air I'. J. Rvan, District Solicitor in the Wellington office of the Public. Trust, has been appointed It a similar position in Auckland.
TVfr A. Maepherson, Fields Supervisor of the Department of Agriculture for the Canterbury province, will retire from the service on September IS. on superannuation. Mr .1. C. Mercer, formerly of the Christchurch Airdrome, went to Timaru this week to take up his duties as manager of the Aero Company lately formed there. Mr Vivian Smith, art master at, Wellington Technical College, has received a Government commission to paint a portrait of the late Sergeant R. ('. Travis. V.C., D.C.M., M.M., for the Dominion War Museum. The portrait will be in oils, half length, life size. Sir Arnold Gridlev, who passed through Christchurch this week for the south, was entertained at dinner last, night by the. Southland League and Electric. Power Board at Invercargill. Sir Arnold Gridlev congratulated Southlaud upon its electrical scheme and predicted a. great impetus to the prosperity of the Dominion with the extension of the use of electrical power.
