PERSONALS.
Messrs J. MeCombs, E. J. Howard, D. Jones and tho Hon. J. A. Ha nan, M.P.'a, came south, for the week-end this morning. The lions. W. 0. F. Carncross, R. Moore and G. J. Smith, M.L.C.'s, arrived from the north by the Wahine this morning. Archdeacon Jacob, of Timaru, has tendered his resignation as vicar of St. Mary's, Timaru, in order to take over the control of St. Saviour's orphanage. Lieut.-Colouel H. E. Avery, D.5.0., N.Z.S.C, who has boen appointed New Zealand military representative in Loudon, will leave for England on September 16. Mr J. H. Baird, of Sefton, has received the appointment of secretary to tho Sefton Dairy Company, iu succession to Mr W. J. Young, who recently resigned. Amongst tho Wahino's passengers this morning were Mr Gerald Stead, i formerly of Amberley, but now a resilient of the North Island; also the Rev. Fathers Kennedy, Bartley and Whelan. Mr R. Ellison, the London manager for the National Dairy Association, is at present in Christchureh, and will, leave for London, via Sydney, on September 25. At last evening's meeting of the Christchureh Technical College Board of Governors satisfaction was expressed at the recovery from illness of the board's director, Dr D. E. Hansen. Lieutenant W. E. Luckman, armourer in the Army Ordnance Department, who has been on loan to the New Zealand Defence Department from the Imperial Army, will return to England on September 7. Mr C. 11. Opie was last evening elected as chairman of the Christchureh Technical College Board of Governors for the ensuing year. Tributes were paid to Mr Opie's work as chairman of the board during the past year. Sir Keith Smith, who, with his brother, Sir Ross Smith, accomplished the great flight from England to Australia, is due to arrive in Auckland on Monday. Arrangements are in hand for a fitting reception, and it is probable that seaplanes from the New Zealand Flying School at Kohimarama will meet the Riverina (the boat by which he is arriving) outside the harbour, and that a message of welcome to the city, signed by the Mayor, Mr J. H. Gunson, will be dropped on board the vessel as she comes up the. stream. Sir Keith will visit other centres of tho Dominion later. The following pfficers have relinquished their appointments as honorary aides-de-camp to the GovernorGeneral: —Major-General Sir Andrew Hamilton Russell, K.C.8., K.C.M.G., Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., 1.5.0., V.D., Colonel R. Logan, C.8., Colonel J. C. Nichols, C.8.E., Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, C.M.G., V.D., Commander Wellington Coast Defences; Colonel R. A. Chaffey, C.8.E., V.D., Honorary Lieut.-Colonel H. Boscawen. Colonel J. R. Purdy, C.8.E., M.8., New Zealand Army Medical Department, has relinquished the appointment of honorary physician to the Governor-General.
