EXEMPTION OF MARISTS.

ANOTHER ELLIOTT FICTION. Presa Association. DUNEDIN, November 29. At a meeting at Duncdin on Tuesday night, the Rev. Howard Elliott is reported to have said that Archbishop O 'Shea threatened Sir James Allen that if legislation was not passed excluding the Marist Brothers from military service, Roman Catholics in the Public Service would be called out on strike. At a meeting at Middlemareh last night, Sir James Allen gave an emphatic contradiction to the statement. He said that he had telegraphed to Archbishop O'Shea, who replied, "The reported statement is absolutely without foundation. I never made any such threat or suggestion."
