GENERAL ELECTION.

THE ROLLS CLOSED. ISSUE OF THE WRITS. The writs for both the European and Maori sections of the General Election were issued yesterday, and the enrolment of electors ceased at 6 p.m. By the writs, December 8 is fixed as the final day for the receipt of nominations, both Maori and European. The election dates are those already announced—December 16 for the Maori elections, and December 17 for the European. The writs are returnable on December 26 (European) and January 9 (Maori). The approximate number of voters enrolled in the Christchurch electorates is given below. The main rolls were closed some weeks Ago, since when there have been a number of removals by objection. Mr W. E. Devereux, the Government candidate for the Eiccarton seat, addressed a well-attended meeting at the Islington Hall last evening, Mr Leslie being in the chair. The candidate was listened to most attentively and only three questions were asked. Mr J. McCombs addressed a well-at-tended meeting in the Governor's Bay school last night, Mr B. Allan presiding. At the conclusion of the address the candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. ELECTION NOTICES.

Mr D. G. Sullivan will address the electors in the Bromley School to-night at 8 p.m., and at the Shirley School on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Mr David Jones, the Government candidate" for Kaiapoi, will address the electors on Mr Farquhar's lawn, North Eoad, Papanui, on Monday, at 7 p.m., after which the electors of Harewood are invited to meet Mr Jones at 8 p.m. Mr McCombs will address the electors of Banks Peninsula next week, as follows: —Monday, Le Bon's Bay; Tuesday, Duvauchelles Bay; Wednesday, Akaroa. / Mr J.' Bobertson will address the electors of Eiccarton at Hillmorten on Monday and at Greendale on Tuesday. The Hon. E. H. Ehodes will speak at Springston to-night, Dunsandel on Monday, Brookside on Tuesday, and at Broadflelds and Lincoln Hall on Wednesday. Mr W. E. Devereux will speak to Eiccarton electors at Hornby to-night, at Spreydon on Tuesday, and at Sheffield on Thursday. The Avon electors will be addressed by Mr G. W. Russell at the Burwood Hall on Monday, Linwood School on Tuesday, and North Brighton Surf Club Hall on Wednesday. Mr Hiram Hunter, Labour candidate for Christchurch East, is to speak at the coiner of Grafton and Charles Streets, Linwood, to-night. The Reform candidate for Lyttelton, Mr R. Macartney, will address the electors in the Cashmere Hills School this evening.
