SILVER WEDDING.

Yesterday Mr and Mrs J. E. Garland, of Hillsborough, Woolston, celebrated their silver wedding by giving a reception for their friends in the aftjrnoon, and a dance for the young people in the evening. The whole of the family wore present, including Mrs Harry Barnes, their married daughter from Wellington, and her little daughter Suzanne, Miss Margaret and Mary Garland, Messrs Heathcote, Kenneth and Humphrey Garland and Master Rupert Garland. Other friends present included. Mesdames David and Leicester Matson, Robert Allen, Bruce, Macbeth, Fairhurst, Mr and Mrs Kirk and the Misses Kirk (4), Miss Poppj- Turner, Mrs Tonks, Mr and Mrs Baumber, Misses Turner (4), Mrs Edgar Turner, Miss Thompson, Miss Cholmondeley, Mrs Walcot Wood. Mrs Evans, Mrs Harcourt Turner (Wellington), Mrs Laurie, Mrs Cecil Wood and Mrs Watson. During the afternoon songs were given by Mr Heathcote Garland and Miss Hazel Evans, Miss Baumber presiding at the piano. A delicious afternoon tea was served on the lawn. A large number of beautiful presents, and many substantial cheques, were received by Mr and Mrs Garland.

In the evening a delightful dance was given, the drawing-room being tilled into a ballroom for the occasion, where Miss Macdonald supplied the latest music for the dancing. Extras were played by. Miss V. Matson and Miss Muriel Little. A delightful time was spent by all who were present, and additional congratulations were showered upon Mr and Mrs Garland on their happy anniversary. Supper was served in the nursery, and sitting-out places were arranged in the library, hall and grounds. Amongst those present were Mesdames Tonks, Turner and Woodroffe, Misses Wanda Warren, M. and A. Kirk, Val. Matson, Marjorie and Jean McDougall, Peggy Woodroffe, Peggy Ferrier, Nancy LeCren, Dorothy Sandston, Huia Booth, Dorothy Diamond, Dorothy Laurie, Audrey Richardson, Edna Hawkins, Irene Smith, Marjorie and Geraldino Anderson, Poppy Turner, Edie Turner, Noel Fisher, Messrs Clarkson, Warren, Hawkins, Harkness, J. Matson, Mere-dith-Kaye, Watson, LeCren, J. and G. Tobin, Denis Herdman, Lionel Cook, Roscoc Harris, Colin Marshall, E. j Wauehop, and Holmes.
