Clarkson, on behalf of the Soldiers' Car Committee- reported that during, the month of February the car had made 2:1 trips, carrying 195 soldiers and sisters, and covering 908 miles. On account of the fine weather the car had been in great demand, and in consequence for the present the committee had decided that it was to be used for the Hospital and Sanatorium patients only. During the period under review three trips were made to Akaroa, and on each occasion the men were hospitably entertained by the Mayor and townspeople. The thanks of the association were due to them for their kindness in this direction. The report was adopted. Mr Clarkson also reported on the visit he and Mr J. S. Hawkes had made to Ashburton at the invitation of Ashburton motorists. At a meeting held for the purpose of deciding the formation of an association in the Ashburton County or the union with the Canterbury Automobile Association, it was decided to form a branch of the Canterbury Association in Ashburton, and ofllcials were elected. The only objection that the meeting had with reference to associating themselves with the Canterbury Association was the question of controlling the amount received in the Ashburton County from subscriptions. The Canterbury representatives, however, had assured those present that all moneys received would be spent for the benefit .of the county, hut the authority to do so must be sanctioned by the Canterbury Council as the controlling body.
